    This is a senior editorial position at ITV News. The Head of Planning will oversee home news planning for ITV News. They will run the home planning desk to help drive and shape the news agenda for ITV News across all bulletins and to co-ordinate planning across all ITV News platforms.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Drive and shape News Agenda for ITV News programmes
    • Plan and manage a variety of special projects
    • Identify and pursue stories for future coverage and to help drive distinctive coverage for ITV News across all its network bulletins
    • Prioritise effectively, and target planning time and resources at stories with a very high chance of making air
    • Run the ITV News editorial diary
    • Oversee the home lookahead at the weekly lookahead meeting
    • Brief and deploy reporters, correspondents and producers to cover necessary stories in advance
    • Work and communicate closely with senior management and programme teams to ensure editorial goals are met
    • Work closely with the ITV News Regional bureaus to support their journalism
    • Liaise with the ITV Head of Specialists and the Specialist Bureaux to support their journalism and to help drive distinctive ideas
    • Co-ordinate with the ITV News digital team to ensure smooth and effective planning across all platforms
    • Maintain a close working relationship with the ITV Regions to ensure effective co-ordination of editorial goals and resources
    • Ensure ITV News coverage reflects and showcases a diverse range of opinions, matters and communities
    • Maintain relationships and communication with planning desks across the ITN company
    • Manage relations with key external bodies
    • Make informed financial, legal and health and safety judgements
    • Oversee all home news roster matters with responsibility to liaise and guide the admin desk on roster planning and issues
    • Work with newsgathering staff on matters of planning

    • Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making
    • The ability to plan and manage a wide range of tasks under pressure
