    5 News delivers distinctive programmes and exclusive stories with people at the heart of them. The Input Producer is a creative editorial role in the 5 News team, helping to produce programmes to the highest standards. This role requires an experienced journalist with lots of creative ideas and sound news judgement.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for generating exclusive and engaging long-term and short-term news coverage, including investigations, special reports and series. The Input Producer will plan coverage and generate story ideas and treatments. They will also regularly work on the 5 News planning and news desks.



    • Produce reporters and correspondents for planned coverage.
    • Develop and maintain contacts
    • Originate ideas for news coverage.
    • Research and produce packages.
    • Originate and book guests, live and pre-recorded.
    • Find contributors for reports.
    • Generate ideas for stories, series and multimedia coverage.
    • Use Avid editing to log, cut, shot-list, top and tail feeds and rushes.
    • Ensure stories are accurate and comply with the law and relevant regulations.
    • Work in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety in the office and in the field.
    • Regularly work on the input desk.
    • Undertake work in the field, at home and abroad, producing coverage and working on OBs.
    • Liaise with the online team to generate interactive content for the 5 News digital output.
    • Deal professionally with members of the public and guests.

    • Ability to work to a deadline.
    • Play an authoritative role in team editorial meetings presenting ideas in a persuasive manner.
    • Self-start who can work in an autonomous manner.
    • Act with responsibility and common sense in the field and office, in compliance with ITN’s Health and Safety Policies.
