    A hugely exciting, senior leadership role providing logistical, commercial and strategic direction across the implementation of host broadcasting services for IAAF Productions, a joint venture between ITN Productions and IAAF. The candidate will work with Host Broadcast Senior Management team on project management, resourcing, budgeting, staffing and cost control.  He/she will have specific responsibility for production, financial management, procurement, Health & Safety and the quality and efficiency of production management processes for the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape an exciting venture.



    • Building and managing the production management team for IAAF World Championships in Doha in 2019 and other IAAF events during the period

    • Implement production strategy and report on performance against objectives

    • Maximise project value and margins, authorising green light status for finance, production and personnel

    • Jointly accountable with senior leadership for driving efficient and effective deployment of approved technologies

    • Develop new strategies and workflows to ensure the highest level of client relationships and satisfaction

    • Continuously stay in tune with the market through research and keep across any changes and opportunities


    • Jointly accountable with senior colleagues for ensuring an understanding of, and compliance with ITN Group and ITN Productions’ policies, guidelines, legislative and regulatory requirements (with particular emphasis on Health & Safety and Risk

    • Management),  in order to minimise the organisation’s risk. Advise on safety and risk issues and liaise with ITN Group safety team to establish and communicate safety action plans

    • Accountable for ensuring production teams have clear understanding of timescale, rights and clearances required on each project in order to enable IAAF Productions and its partners to produce, broadcast and otherwise exploit its content

    • Ensure best practice protocols are implemented and adhered to across the division

    • Responsible for leading or supporting negotiations for talent and key contributors where necessary

    • Accountable for resolving operational and financial issues commensurate with the role

    • Jointly accountable with senior colleagues for delivering demonstrable value for money through effective management of people and resources.


    • Lead on and/or input into decisions regarding the financial and operational performance of projects

    • Responsible for the strategic allocation of funding and, where necessary, approve, set, and monitor budgets 

    • Oversee assessment of the financial viability of content ideas, identifying and mitigating any risks

    • Responsible for ensuring appropriate financial support is provided by Finance on high financial risk/complex projects and/or across a portfolio of projects


    • Manage Outside Broadcast of IAAF events in various locations around the world

    • Coordinate with local organising committees, rights holders, sponsors and technical teams

    • Worldwide travel as required by events

    • Attend all major events as well as being available for pre and post event preparation / debrief

    • Carry out location recces as required

    • Working with Head of Technical Operations, ensuring all technology solutions are in place and that we are at the cutting edge of innovative technologies


    • Hands on leadership of a large and fluctuating team

    • Ensure adequate training, development and performance management arrangements are in place for the production management team in line with ITN Group and ITN Productions’ guidelines and policies

    • Foster close working relationships with senior Editorial, Commercial and Business Affairs staff across ITN

    • Oversee the management of ITN Productions’ freelancer network, ensuring Production Managers are contracting and managing their network appropriately

    • Accountable for working with Procurement to implement the strategy for the procurement of production resources, developing supplier frameworks and lists, and ensuring compliance with them

    • Jointly accountable with senior editorial and leadership colleagues for establishing and overseeing plans for business continuity and disaster recovery in the production and post production areas.


    • Extensive experience of managing large-scale sports Outside Broadcasts outside UK essential

    • Extensive experience of leading end-to-end multi-platform production management

    • Experience production managing large-scale live events and managing multi-million pound budgets

    • An understanding of Clearcast process and approvals desirable but not essential

    • There will be lots of travel involved in this role so must be comfortable with working in various locations globally

    • Excellent knowledge of the technical side of production processes and workflows

    • Considerable experience of long-term project planning

    • Experience of managing co-productions and/or complex rights and funding models

    • Extensive finance and budgeting expertise, and in negotiation across all production aspects of a deal

    • Contract negotiation, paperwork preparation and management across freelance personnel

    • Extensive knowledge of rate cards

    • Extensive network of suppliers in the Sports broadcast industry

    • Extensive experience of managing and monitoring Health & Safety, supported by recognised formal Health & Safety training (including Risk Assessment) and an in-depth understanding of insurances, licenses, regulatory legal and compliance

    • policies and issues

    • Experience of leading large diverse teams across a broad range of output and locations
