    ITV News is looking for a Political Correspondent to cover one of the most challenging times in British politics. We require someone with a sound knowledge of UK politics, a track record of bringing in exclusives, broadcast journalism experience and a desire to shape the agenda in Westminster and beyond.



    • Creating accurate and well-crafted political packages for ITV programmes
    • Providing informative live coverage of the state of politics in the UK, including breaking news and analysis of complex issues
    • Thinking of new ways to project our political coverage onto digital platforms, as well as blogging, podcasting and a presence on social media
    • Contributing ideas to help with fresh and innovative newsgathering on the political agenda
    • Bringing in off-diary and exclusive stories and ideas
    • Conducting news-making live and pre-recorded interviews
    • Pitching and delivering coverage ideas beyond Westminster that impact communities across the Nations and regions
    • Working with accuracy to meet programme deadlines
    • Aware of financial and legal implications of day-to-day news coverage
    • Responsible for managing their health and safety in the field
    • A knowledge of Ofcom guidelines

    • A comprehensive knowledge of political issues in the UK and their ramifications both in the communities our viewers  live in as well as abroad
    • Excellent contacts with the main political parties, individual politicians and Whitehall departments
    • High-quality news judgement and the initiative to work independently
    • Able to write concisely, with clarity and imagination for television and other platforms
    • A passion for developing innovative ways of covering politics on digital platforms
    • A confident broadcast presence, with experience of television journalism
    • An outstanding record of bringing in exclusive stories and breaking lines
    • A commitment to creating political coverage that reflects the diversity of Britain’s communities
    • A strong interviewer who has experience of questioning high-profile figures
    • Calm under pressure in all environments
    • Capable of working to tight deadlines
    • A creative and innovative approach to stories
