  • Overview

    To maintain a high level of engineering and operational support for ITN’s broadcast systems, associated hardware and software within, MCR and Productions and all other site and operational areas that facilitate the effective and smooth running within ITN.

    Responsibilities

    • To diagnose faults and take action to rectify problems on nonlinear studio and field broadcast systems
    • To support Avid ingest, editing and Avid interaction with other systems
    • To collect and analyse logs where possible and pass on to appropriate person or manufacturer
    • System and PC/Server configuration
    • To support a studio facility – cameras, sound, distribution
    • To liaise with manufacturers in a confident and informed manor to minimise service disruption
    • To report to the team leader and product specialists on major issues
    • To create a good working relationship with technical and editorial operators to assist them in fault diagnosis
    • To work with product specialists on system upgrades
    • To make sure that broken equipment is returned to the manufactures
    • To monitor spares holding
    • Must be able to work flexibly as shift work is involved
    • Any other duties as required by your line manager or ITN
    • To be prepared to backfill the team where practical and support the daily activities of the team where appropriate

    Qualifications

     

    Essential Skills

     

    • Good interpersonal skills – must be able to work within a small team in a high pressure environment
    • A decisive and calm approach
    • Previous experience in a broadcast TV, Radio or Multimedia environment
    • Have an understanding on how Broadcast Television programmes are compiled
    • Have an understanding of how complex nonlinear editing is performed
    • Ability to communicate on a competent technical level with manufacturers and suppliers
    • Ability to make independent decisions
    • A willingness to undertake further training as required
    • Knowledge of HDTV concepts
    • Commitment to provision of the best possible service to internal and external customers
    • Be able to work flexibly and undertake shift work including nights and weekends in accordance with service needs
    • Good record of timekeeping and attendance
    • Appropriate professional appearance
    • Promote an effective Safety, Health and Environment culture, to ensure a safe and healthy working environment within area of operation

     

    Desirable Skills

     

    • Knowledge of Microsoft, Linux and OS X operating systems
    • Experience with Avid, EVS or other file based editing systems
    • Knowledge of Avid iNEWS and other Avid Products
    • Knowledge of VizRT Broadcast graphics
    • Experience with file based encoding and transfer systems, for example Vantage and Content Agent
    • Have an understanding of IT Networks LAN/fibre interconnection
    • Ability to write concise handovers as part of communication within the team and to relay information to operations, editorial and suppliers
    • An understanding of technology used in a TV studio – cameras, sound and vision systems
